BLOOD GROUP DIET

The Blood Group Diet is entirely attributable to the work conducted by by Dr P. D’Adamo. This “diet

is particularly interesting for those people who suffer with food allergies and food intolerance’s. But first it is worth noting the difference between food allergies and food intolerance’s. Food intolerances are something that we never grow out of, since it relates to an intolerance we have for certain foods, and linked to our blood type. Intolerances build up over time and as we get older they become more obvious. On the other hand a food allergy will be painfully obvious, in that you may have an immediate reaction – it may cause you to vomit, have diarrhoea, come out in a rash, or become bloated and uncomfortable.

The way to use The Blood Group Diet, is to initially find out what type of blood is travelling through your veins – if you already know that’s great, otherwise you’ll have to find out. There are lots of ways to find out your blood type:

  • Go to your local doctor or health clinic and ask them to do the test

  • Join the Red Cross or similar Blood Donation organisation where you live (LINKS)

Then when you know if you’re an ‘O’, ‘A’, ‘B’ or an ‘AB’ you’ll be able to use the Blood Group Diet to best advantage. Having found out your blood type, simply start to read up about the type of foods, which are most

suitable for you. For each blood group, you will find interesting information about the background to each blood group and the foods that:

  • Are medicinal – that is they promote balance and health

  • Are neutral – neither beneficial nor harmful

  • Are foods to avoid – foods that act like poison – we should avoid these

Happy reading, and a word of advice, don’t try and change too much in your diet too quickly. The most effective approach is to start cutting out the poisons and start increasing the medicinal. Good luck!.

BLOOD GROUP O

HISTORY OF THE HUNTER

Blood Group O is the oldest blood group appearing about 40,000BC. They are known as the Hunters

originally hunting and gathering food. Blood Group O have a good digestive tract but are intolerant to dietary and environmental adaptations. They have an overactive immune system.

When stressed the Hunter responds best with intense physical activity – going to the gym, a brisk walk or run, anything that will get them moving.

This blood group requires an efficient metabolism to stay lean and energetic. Blood Group O can donate blood to all blood groups but can only receive blood from another type O. They have no antigens. Anti-A and Anti-B antibodies.

BLOOD GROUP O - Some Additional Notes

  • Type Os thrive on physical exercise and animal protein.

  • You need lean, chemical-free, organic meats, poultry and fish.

  • Balance meat with the appropriate vegetables and fruits to avoid over-acidification. Over-acidification can cause ulcers and irritation of the stomach lining. Blackberries aggravate the digestion.

  • If you have ulcers, use bladder wrack (Fucus vesiculious) which kills the ulcer causing bacteria (H. pylori).

  • Coffee makes the stomach more acid. Parsley soothes the digestive tract.

  • Susceptible to poor blood clotting, IBS, colitis, Crohn’s disease, ulcers, unstable thyroid functions and diabetes.

    • To help blood clot, eat kale, collard greens, romaine lettuce, broccoli and spinach, which contains Vitamin

    • K.
  • Blood loss during surgery and childbirth can be a problem.

  • Aspirin can thin the blood and be a trouble.

  • Eat cold water fish such as cod, herring and mackerel to aid efficient blood clotting especially if you have IBS, colitis or Crohn’s disease. Cabbage, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, mustard greens inhibit thyroid functions. Eat plenty of seafood to stabilise the thyroid.

  • Dairy, wheat, corn inhibit production of insulin leading to diabetes.

  • Belladonna plants (except tomatoes) cause arthritic conditions and inflammatory reactions in the joints. Sometimes there is chronic deterioration of the bone cartilage (osteoarthritis). Avoid aubergines, potatoes, corn and wheat products to protect the joints.

  • Susceptible to viral infections as Type O does not possess any antigens.

  • Antibiotics do not kill viruses.

  • Susceptible to viral meningitis, chronic sinus infections, plagues cholera, small pox, typhoid, malaria and pulmonary tuberculosis.

  • Prone to psoriasis due to eating grains and dairy products.

  • Broccoli contains calcium, eat plenty because you will be short of calcium due to not having too many dairy products.

  • Asthma, hayfever appear to be specific to Type O because of the lectins in food and pollen. Avoid all the “poisonous” foods.

  • If you are pregnant and the father of the baby is A or AB the flu vaccine can be dangerous.

  • Avoid the injectable form of the polio vaccine; opt for the oral preparation. If problems occur, take fewer.

  • Avoid penicillin-class antibiotics. Avoid sulfa-class drugs. They can cause skin rashes. Avoid macrolideclass antibiotics. They can aggravate bleeding tendencies.

BLOOD GROUP A - Some Additional Notes

  • Appeared about 25,000 to 15,000 BC in Asia or the Middle East

  • Antigen A. Anti-B antibodies

  • Cannot exchange with group B

  • Do not respond well to continuous confrontation. Stress produces anxiety, irritability and hyperactivity. The protective antibodies become delicate and infection can take over.

  • Use quieting techniques to combat stress. To enhance the immune system take Echinacea and Huangki (Astragalus)

  • Avoid heavy competitive sports and exercises. The immune system is very sluggish, so drink the recommended herbal teas.

  • Predisposed to heart disease, cancer and diabetes. Type A have a poor rate of survival from cardiovascular disease due mainly from eating the wrong foods. High level of serum cholesterol and triglycerides are a problem. Hawthorn is a great cardiovascular tonic.

  • Quercetin supplement is used to prevent cancer. If there is a history of breast cancer in your family, introduce snails into your diet. The lectin in snails removes sick cells. Peanuts also contain a cancerfighting lectin. Keep away from nitrites (corn beef, ham) as they promote stomach cancer. If you are receiving chemotherapy, use milk thistle, which is an effective antioxidant, to protect from liver damage.

  • Susceptible to liver flukes and other tropical infections which have been linked to the cause of cancer.

  • Never eat tomatoes. They are trouble for the digestive tract.

  • Too much wheat can cause inhibition of insulin efficiency. Also, a lot of meat and dairy foods. Quercetin can be given to prevent the many complications of juvenile diabetes.

  • Dairy foods cause excessive mucus, as also does wheat.

  • Anti-histamines can raise the blood pressure. Prone to stress-related asthma.

  • Pernicious anaemia can be a problem. Vitamin B12 administered by injection gives the best response. Tamari, miso and soy sauce are highly beneficial.

  • Eat plenty of Tofu.

  • Heavy clotting during the menstrual period can be a problem. Keep to the diet.

  • Prone to develop a puffy arthritis which is the more acute rheumatoid form of the disease (very painful). Stress may play a big part.

  • Susceptible to syphilis, so always practice safe sex. Susceptible also to tuberculosis.

  • If taking a selenium supplement, be careful of toxicity.

  • Most children react well to vaccine. For preference, have the injectable form of polio vaccine.

  • Carbacephem-class antibodies work well for type A’s. Very few side effects.

  • Good response to penicillin-class and sulfa-class antibiotics. Avoid if possible, tetracycline and the macrolide-class antibiotics.

  • Some antibiotics cause digestive problems and interfere with iron metabolism.

  • Because of the risk of cancer, you should not take conventional HRT, but preferably phyto-oestrogens.

BLOOD GROUP B HISTORY OF THE NOMAD

Blood Group B is the third oldest blood group appearing about 15,000 to 10,000 BC in the Himalayan Highlands They have a balanced stomach, a strong immune system and a tolerant digestive system. As a result they have a flexible diet and dairy products are fine for them.

When stressed the B Blood Group responds best with creativity. They require a balance between physical and mental activity to stay lean and sharp. Blood Groups B’s are resistant to heart disease and cancer, but prone to exotic immune-system disorders, e.g.

multiple sclerosis, lupus and ME

  • Antigen B, antibodies A

  • Cannot exchange blood with Group A

  • Chinese, Japanese and many Asian societies are composed of a high number of Type Bs. Also, traditional Jewish populations are primarily Type B. Type Bs are more flexible tha Os As or Abs. Less vulnerable to many common diseases. If there is balance in your life you make a good survivor.

  • You respond to stress with harmony and balance.

  • You require moderate exercise that is not fiercely competitive.

  • Type B blood constitutes 9% of the population of the USA, and 30 to 40% of all self-made millionaires there are Type B!!!

  • There appears to be a direct connection between stress, auto-immune diseases and red meat.

  • Type Bs have a high allergy threshold unless they eat the wrong foods.

  • Wheat contains a lectin which attaches itself to the insulin receptors.

  • Wheat is therefore stored as fat.

  • Corn, lentils, sesame seeds and buckwheat cause hypoglycaemia, and weight gain.

  • Peanuts affect liver functions.

  • Rye contains a lectin, which settles in the vascular systems causing blood disorders and potential strokes,

  • Tomatoes are trouble for the digestive tract.

  • Don’t eat chicken. It contains an agglutinating lectin which can cause strokes and immune disorders.

  • Eat beans and legumes sparingly

  • East pineapple to aid digestion

  • Prone to juvenile onset diabeties. Quercetin can be given to prevent many complications.

  • Prone to malaria

  • Susceptible to cystitis and kidney infections. Drink cranberry and pineapple juice (mixed) every day

  • Some susceptible to polio. Always have the oral form of polio vaccine. Children often have severe neurological reactions to vaccinations. Prone to chronic sinus infections. Use Collinsonia (stone root).

  • Pregnant women should avoid the flu vaccine especially if the father of the child is Type A or Type B

  • Magnesium supplements can help Type B children who have eczema. Also, eat the recommended green vegetables, grains and legumes.

  • For concentration and memory take Siberian ginseng and Ginko biloba. For treating stomach ulcers, chronic fatigue syndrome and hypoglycaemia use liquorice plant as a herbal tea.

  • Avoid quinolone-class antibiotics.

  • Be aware of nervous system disorders when taking antibiotics, e.g. blurred vision, dizziness, insomnia. Contact your physician immediately and discontinue the drug.

  • Type B antigen is D – galactosamine. The same sugar present is milk, so Type Bs can eat dairy products.
